or have simply eaten too much. In times like those, it's really awesome to have an all-natural solution that really works. That's where the DIY "Digest Zen" blend comes in.
I found the recipe on one of the blogs that I've read, and immediately copied it into my EO notebook. The name DigestZen is actually the name of an EO blend that's sold by another essential oil company (doTerra). Seeing as though there was no way I could afford to just order the blend from that company, (and since I had all of the listed EOs on hand) I figured I'd go the DIY route.
While we don't get sick often, when we do, it's yucky tummies all around. I'm on my second little roller bottle of the blend, and do my best to not let it get too low before mixing up some more. Maybe one day I'll wise up and mix a 5ml or 15ml bottle of it so that all I have to do is add it to a roller bottle.
I use this blend on tummies at the first sign of trouble, whether it's nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, etc., and I use it often. Since it's all-natural, with no possibility of over-using it, there's no reason we can't use it as often as needed. My 5-year-old even asks for the "tummy oils" when her tummy is upset. I roll it starting at the belly button, clockwise in a spiral outward to be sure to cover the problem area. I also lightly rub, with my fingers, along the same clockwise pattern to help rub it in. My daughter asked for me to do that specifically when she was sick last weekend - I guess it helped to calm her stomach.
I even offered this blend to the mother of one of the lead dancers in our local Nutcracker production back in November. The lead girl was feeling nauseous before the second show, and thought she was going to throw up. They were willing to try anything, as there wasn't an understudy and she really wanted to be able to perform. I let her use it, and it worked for her as well. Every time one of them saw me after that, I was thanked profusely. :)
Here's the recipe if you'd like to try it yourself. All EOs are available for purchase individually from Spark Naturals.
DIY "Digest Zen"
3 drops Basil
3 drops Clove Bud
2 drops Thyme
2 drops Rosemary
2 drops Coriander
1 drop Ginger
1 drop Peppermint
You can apply this blend topically or take in capsules as needed. If you blend it 2:1 (2 parts FCO to 1 part EOs) in a roller bottle, you'll get better coverage.
For the stomach bug, specifically, here's what I've used that seems to work really well.
- DIY Digest Zen on tummy as needed.
- Cold/Flu Bomb in a roller bottle on bottoms of feet, along spine, and on brain stem.
- 3 drops Frankincense neat along spine.
- Diffuse Shield all day/all night.
Do you have any specific essential oils or blends that you use for stomach problems and/or sickness in your house? Please leave me a comment. I'd love to hear about it.
